A good alternative to Immersive Translate

Blab Translation is the closest alternative: one Chrome extension for bilingual web pages, image text and YouTube subtitles, plus PDF, ebook and manga translation on its website. Choose it if you want web translation free with no account and your own AI key; stay with Immersive Translate if you need meeting translation, more video sites or DeepL and Google as engines.

What is the same

Both put the translation under each paragraph or show the translation only, translate selected text and input boxes, read text in images, and add bilingual subtitles to YouTube. Both translate PDFs with their layout kept, ebooks, and manga with the translation in the bubbles.

What is different

Blab Translation lets you pick the part of a site to translate, or a part to leave alone, and remembers it for that site. Its image OCR runs on your device. Web translation uses Chrome's built-in translator or your own AI key, and neither needs a Blab account.

Immersive Translate offers more than 20 engines, including DeepL, meeting subtitles for Google Meet, Zoom and Teams, and subtitles on Netflix and other video sites. Its Pro plan is $9.99 a month or $119.88 a year; comic translation and PDF Pro are paid features.

Where Blab Translation falls short

  • No DeepL, Google or Microsoft engines, and no meeting translation.
  • Subtitles are translated on YouTube and on video players that publish text tracks, not on Netflix-style players.
  • Chrome only: no Firefox, Safari or mobile app.
  • A much smaller user base, so fewer sites have been tested by readers.

Questions

Do I need an account?

Not for web pages, image text or YouTube subtitles. PDFs, ebooks and manga are translated on our servers and need one.

Can I move my own API key over?

Yes. Choose AI under engines and paste a key for OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek or OpenRouter, or point it at Ollama or LM Studio on your computer.
