Best Chrome extension to translate manga

If you want the page redrawn with the translation inside the speech bubbles, and the same extension to translate the rest of the web, Blab Translation does both: right-click a comic image and it is replaced by a translated page. If you want to edit the result by hand, Torii's editor goes further, and IsManga offers a cheap unlimited subscription.

How Blab Translation translates a comic page

Right-click the image, or pick it from the float ball, and Blab Translation's servers redraw the page: the original lettering is removed and the translation is set inside the bubbles. The redrawn page takes the original's place on the site, with a badge to flip back.

On the website you can also upload pages or a whole chapter as PNG, JPEG, WebP or CBZ, choose right-to-left or left-to-right reading, have sound effects translated too, and colorize black-and-white pages.

Comic pages need a Blab account. Each month includes free pages; the Pricing page lists how many, and what paid plans add.

How the other manga extensions work

Immersive Translate calls manga translation a Premium feature on 100+ supported manga sites; its comparison table gives Pro and Max 3,000 images a month. IsManga lays the translation directly over the original text and gives 40 free translations a week, with unlimited plans from $1.49 a day or $5.99 a month. Ichigo works on any manga site through its Unlocker or Panel Tool and accepts PDF and ZIP uploads; its listing says it is a subscription with a free trial. Torii typesets the translation back into the bubbles, has an editor with AI inpainting and PSD export, sells credits from $5.99 for 2,500 with no subscription, and lets you bring your own API key.

Where Blab Translation falls short

  • There is no editor: you cannot move a bubble's text or retouch the cleaned page, as you can in Torii.
  • Comic pages run on our servers and need an account; the free pages each month are limited.
  • Blab Translation is new, with far fewer users and reviews than any of these extensions.

Questions

Does it work on any manga site?

It works on comic images you can right-click on a page. Sites that hide the artwork are handled by the click position rather than the image the menu reports, but a site that blocks the image from being fetched cannot be translated in place; upload the pages instead.

Can it translate Korean webtoons and Chinese manhua?

Yes. The source language is detected, and the translation can go into any of the extension's target languages.
